Jill Watson, Master Director

Our director, Jill Watson, joined the Grand Traverse Show Chorus in 2002 and became the front-line director in October of 2011. Having a life-long love of music, Jill played flute all through school and was a featured soloist on many occasions. She also began singing early on, with her claim to fame being the “behind the curtain singing voice” of the Tin Man and the Scarecrow in her 6th grade production of The Wizard of Oz!
Always an active member of the chorus, Jill has served as bass section leader, music team member, marketing chair, visual team member, assistant director, co-director and has been the annual show program coordinator for many years. She sings bass in her medal-winning quartet, Sashay and loves the thrill of four-part harmony.
In her "real" life she is a retired Traffic Manager/Copy Editor/Proofreader in the advertising/marketing world, mom to her daughter and son-in-law, and “Nonnie” to 2 incredibly adorable grandchildren.
Upon achieving a minimum of 600 points in the 2016 annual regional competition(!), Jill reached a personal goal and is now a Master Certified Director with Sweet Adelines International. “Singing speaks to me and makes me smile! I am so glad to have discovered Grand Traverse Show Chorus at this stage in my life and am proud to have been given the opportunity to stand in front of this amazing group of women. My goal is to have fun each and every week, and to inspire the chorus to be the best that we all can be.”
Jill won the "Novice Director of the Year Award" for directing the chorus that scored the most points in her 2012 Regional contest directorial debut!
