You don't even need to be able to read music, as singing tracks are available for each voice part to listen to and practice with.
The first time you come, a member of our Music Team will want to hear you sing something like "Happy Birthday" so a voice part can be assigned to you. Then you will be placed in a section of the chorus near someone else who will be singing the same part. You will get a guest folder of muisic to use during the rehearsal Though you will see most of the chorus singing without music, DON'T WORRY! We don't expect anyone to sing without music for a while, this is the expectation though to be fully off paper eventually as you pass songs.
If you find this experience enjoyable, we welcome you to continue to come to rehearsals before you make any committment. Your comfort level will surely rise as you continue to rehearse and gain knowledge in the barbershop musical style, making friends as you go.
If you decide you do wish to join, you will be guided along the way by our Membership Coordinator. You may also be assigned a "Riser Mentor", she will help you to understand what the organization is all about, help with paperwork, and encourage you to sing your best. The Musical Director can even provide you with a few private musical lessons to help you find YOUR best voice.
